Our new study, “Cosmic Ray Heating of Cold Streams: Implications for the Gas Supply and Growth of Massive Galaxies,” is now available on arXiv. We investigate whether cosmic rays entrained from cosmic-web filaments can modify the cold gas streams feeding massive galaxies. We find that dense stream cores remain comparatively resilient, while more diffuse and mixed gas can be substantially heated by cosmic rays. [arXiv link]

Ng, Owen et al. (2026), “Multiwavelength Probes of Cosmic Ray Transport in Molecular Cloud Structures,” has been published in Publications of the Astronomical Society of Japan. We develop a framework connecting ballistic, diffusive and hybrid cosmic-ray transport in dense molecular gas with gamma-ray emission, ionisation and hard X-ray signatures, with applications to the Taurus molecular cloud complex. A study I contributed to, Lai et al. (2026), “Neutrinos as a New Tool to Characterize the Milky Way Center,” has been published as a Physical Review D Letter. The work explores how future neutrino observations could provide an independent probe of molecular gas in the Central Molecular Zone and help test systematic uncertainties in conventional gas tracers. Our paper “The ‘Forgotten’ Neutrons: Implications for the Propagation of High-Energy Cosmic Rays in Magnetized Astrophysical and Cosmological Structures” has been published in Universe. We show that temporary conversion of cosmic-ray protons into uncharged neutrons can introduce ballistic propagation steps and modify particle confinement and escape from galaxies, clusters and cosmic-web filaments.
